About this performance
Men Without Hats
These days it’s hard to imagine a world without “Safety Dance” or “Pop Goes The World” but back in 1977 in Montreal Canada when Ivan Doroschuk started then punk rock turned New Wave outfit Men Without Hats he surely only dreamed he would write the 2 globally recognized smash hits and definitely had no idea his songs would be heard everywhere from McDonalds restaurant ads, Alaska airlines commercials to multi-media Super bowl campaigns not to mention the now infamous Tide Pods' “Pop Goes World” campaign and the global soccer chant at UEFA Euros 2024!
Back then Ivan was joined by his brother Colin Doroschuk for the better part of the ’80s along with a host of other talented musicians, Ivan being the main songwriter and constant throughout the years. With a long string of successful album releases and a 2020 induction into the Canadian songwriters hall of fame we fast forward to 2023 where, as if it was meant to be, the Men Without Hats family ties would come full circle when replacing brother Colin Doroschuk on keyboards was his lovely and extremely talented daughter Sahara Sloan.
Ivan entered the studio in early 2025 writing and recording with Grammy & Juno award winning producer Brian Howes. These songs have become the brand new MWH album On The Moon, out now, with the first fantastically fun single “I Love the ‘80s” racking up over 1.5m YouTube views.
The current line up of: Ivan Doroschuk (vocals), Sahara Sloan (keyboards + vocals), Sho Murray (Guitar) and veteran drummer Adrian White is a line up for the ages, MEN WITHOUT HATS will put smile on your face and some sweat on your brow. Please remember to DANCE SAFELY!!
Spoons
Formed in 1980, an intrepid young band from Burlington, Ontario would soon make "Spoons" a different kind of household word. They would help define the sound of pop and New Wave in the 80's with hits like "Nova Heart," "Romantic Traffic," "Old Emotions," and "Tell No Lies."
Their album Arias & Symphonies would go on to be named one of the 20 Most Influential Albums of the 80s by The Chart Magazine and their song "Nova Heart" would be included in Bob Mersereau's book The Top 100 Canadian Singles of All Time.
Gord Deppe and Sandy Horne, along with drummer Chris McNeill and keyboardist Scott Macdonald, continue to perform to this day, with no end in sight for the retro 80s phenomenon. Recently they celebrated their 40th anniversary with the repeatable compilation album and Echoes, a collection of re-recordings of their songs by other 80s artists from around the globe. "Truly one of our proudest achievements ever," according Gord Deppe.
The Cle Elum
Sarah Sargent Pepper and Ian Lee — the indie rock duo behind The Cle Elum — return with new music and announce a new run of tour dates supporting long time friends and New Wave Pioneers “Men Without Hats” along with Canadian Legends “Spoons” across Canada in Jan/Feb of 2027 on the You Can Dance If You Want To Tour.
On March 18 the band released “Guided By Guided By Voices” the hook-packed new single and video from We Must Need It, their sophomore LP due out this fall.
Currently based in Chattanooga, Sarah Sargent Pepper (drums) and Ian Lee (vocals, guitars, keys) met in 2011. At that time, Lee had logged an extensive history with rock and punk acts including Bad Oskar, Woolworthy, Not Rebecca, Tom Daily, Electric Airlines (with Ed Roser from Urge Overkill), and Kevin Lee (with Jon Brant from Cheap Trick), among others. With the couple finding themselves “inseparable” and a “true force of nature team,” they devised a way to stay together on the road, together, they launched Affordable Tour Solutions, a boutique tour support company.
Their 2024 debut, It’s Ok If It Falls Apart (released August 16, 2024 via Winston Sounds), captured a decade of touring and partnership. The album delivered hook-driven, genre-fluid standouts like “Handclaps and Tambourines,” “Old Folks,” “I Am A Robot” (featuring Matthew Caws of Nada Surf), and “Goodbye Night Sky” (featuring Josh Caterer of The Smoking Popes), blending power pop energy with harmony-rich storytelling.
